I’m a sedan guy. I’ve been a sedan guy since my first car I bought in 1995. I’ve driven plenty of other SUV’s since then but none have made me want one in our stable of cars. The Sorento changed that. OK, we only have 2 cars. I’m still calling it a stable.
Love at first sight
The car is good looking – inside and out. The exterior suits me well. It looks great with smooth lines but definitely not flashy. The interior is ergonomic and its electronic instrument panel is the best I’ve seen in either car or truck. Its electronic display is vibrant and looks real. Its very high resolution.
And I love it.
The dash has a lot of options you can tinker with which is great because I love to tinker. Sometimes I do my best at “hyper miling” and want to see how many mpg’s I’m getting. Danielle loves when I drive 5 miles over the speed limit on long drives. OK she doesn’t. At all. She has a lead foot. [Editor’s Note: No I don’t!!]
Don’t even get me started with the Surround View Monitor. I’m not even sure how it works exactly but I’m pretty sure it involves wizardry. Or well placed cameras that are hard to find. Either or.
For those of you who don’t know about it look it up. Or better yet test drive one. My description will fail to capture the wonder. Seriously its amazing. Its a 360º camera. Its the first “back up” camera that made me comfortable enough to change my 20th century ways and only use the dash while parking and backing up.
SUV > Car for family trips
I love my family. A lot. All members. But traveling can be a bit arduous and stressful. I’m not saying I’ve dragged my feet on going to the beach because of it but I’ve dragged my feet on going to the beach because of it. Not with the Sorento. We went to the beach a few weekends ago. So nice. Something about chucking all the stuff in the back and not having to play tetris with everything you’re trying to fit in the trunk of a sedan.
And when the kids start to get a little cabin fever on a long-ish trip, I just opened up the enormous moon roof. Which runs just about the entire length of the vehicle. They loved it. Its a really nice touch. I loved it more than they did, I think.
Moving Forward
Its official. Our family needs an SUV and The KIA Sorento fits the bill. Its good looking. It drives confidently and handles well. We will be enjoying the rest of the test drive for sure with more trips in the sunshine state.
Are you a Sedan or an SUV family?
Thank you John for this Kia Sorento Review. I knew you’d dig the SUV life!! 🙂
