This is going to be a great summer!
Can you believe it’s June already? I better get cracking on this list of mine. *gulp* I dunno why June, even before the summer solstice, still gets me so excited about summer. In New York I figured it was because June was FINALLY warm for good. I wonder if it’ll change now that I’m in Florida.
The unofficial start of summer is Memorial Day. John and I had tradition of taking a vacation that week. We skipped 2012 and 2014 since I gave birth in Spring. I’m glad we got to take a mini one this year.
We kicked off the season on our cruise (check that out here) and I was feeling that post-vacay sadness that comes when you get home from a wonderful trip with no new trip on the horizon.
Cured that quickly by booking a weekend away for John, Rohan and I to celebrate Roey’s 3rd birthday! (Can you believe he’s 3 already? I just had him! He was just a lil infant about 5 minutes ago!!!)
June
We’re heading to Orlando (though we still haven’t decided which attractions we’ll be visiting) and I’m psyched to just have some Ro Only time. He’ll love the dedicated attention from both parents. We’ll take that weekend as an adventure and follow Rohan’s lead. He’d be happy hanging out in the hotel room if it meant steady attention from mommy and daddy with no interruptions for Kaya, so I’m sure he’ll love it.
July
July is my next summer trip. Heading to the BlogHer conference mid-month in New York… that’ll be fantastic. Speaking there for the first time, and getting to see my friends and family all in one trip. I’m really looking forward to it. I got to use some miles for that flight and saved my money! Bonus, I get to stay with my family most of the nights so that’s a savings too. I told them I was coming to stay for a few days in July and they were like:
August
August my only trip officially planned is to Michigan for John’s bestie’s wedding. It’s going to be a 3 day, mega traditional Indian affair. We got the invite this past week and I swear the thing was thick like a book. John got fitted for some traditional indian clothing and everything. I can’t wait to see him in it. Are you aware that Indian weddings are multi-day, food and dance fests? There will be no carb-watching on that trip. 🙂 (note to self: buy a loose fitting dress)
September
Sadly in September I have no travel plans. There’s a blogging conference that starts exactly on my birthday, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to attend. I’ve wanted to go to this one for a few years now and just haven’t made it happen yet. I’ll be certain to budget for it next year. I’m considering cashing in some miles to make the cost to attend more palatable…. not so sure yet.
October
October we take our anniversary cruise trip… that we STILL haven’t 100% decided on. (We’re the worst cuz we need to book ASAP to get good rates)
I’m SO pumped for our trips. I feel like a little kid. It breaks up the summer nicely. Not that being home will be so bad. We’re hitting up the beach almost every weekend and John’s grilling every chance he gets but…there’s nothing like a good ol’ vacay to look forward to! Exploring a new town, eating at new places, relaxing without work looming over you and getting to guiltless do nothing if you don’t want to.
I’m diligent about using my miles card throughout the year on personal and business expenses so I can defray my travel costs. (It’s amazing how fast they add up!) Discover It Miles card gives you 1.5 miles per dollar on purchases (other cards tend to just give only 1) so they add up even faster. They’ll never expire so if you have to skip a couple years like John and I did when the babies were born, you don’t lose everything you earned. There are no fees or blackouts either. #winning!
