Last month I had a little “come to Jesus” meeting with myself. I sat down and realized I didn’t like how I was just run run running. I was spinning my wheels and not getting things done. I was letting things slip through the cracks (oops!) and just not being who I want to be. I felt like it was the perfect time to slow down a bit on work projects and have an easy summer.
I wanted to just enjoy the kids, be really present with them and work on home stuff. Also, it’ll give me a good bit of time to regroup.
My main concern about doing this was….will my income suffer? Will my blog numbers drop? Is this really the most responsible thing to do?
But…I looked at my lil monsters and my house in chaos and said… YEP. We’re slowing down on biz this summer.
First I took a look at my schedule, my planner, my upcoming travel and everything that takes up my time on a day-to-day basis. I then made lists of the things I absolutely had to do, could outsource, could just say no to (or postpone), and could do easier/quicker.
Here’s how I’m setting myself up for a summer of ease:
Hiring a new cleaning service — Easy button. I hate cleaning. It takes up a lot of time, and frustrates me all at once. Had to get rid of our last service after a few issues, but I’ve hired a new one and am SO happy. Saving me time, energy, annoyance and a headache. (I’m also having the kids help me with cleaning up more.)
Ordering everything I can online — I don’t know what I’d do without the interwebz. Seriously, I do so much online shopping it’s ridiculous. I do irl shopping too, but I’ve been ordering more and more stuff online down here again. In New York I’d order everything online from household items to groceries. I slowed down on that here in Florida. But I’m back at it! Walmart.com is my best friend. It’s to the point where Rohan thinks that ANY box delivered is from Walmart. This is what the foyer looks like every other day:
Stocking up on my frequent buys — Have you ever run out of toilet paper? I haven’t. Because I’m a freaking hoarder! I buy foods in bulk on bogo and am looking for a good freezer to keep in the garage so I can stock up on the meats we usually purchase too. I recently stocked up on household items and should be good for the summer. I’m constantly sweeping and wiping the floors so I was sure to get the huge box of Swiffer wet wipes this time. You can stock up on household and baby essentials at www.avoidtheoops.com.
Making shorter (non negotiable) office hours — This was a big deal for me. I’m working a lot less. I stopped using every spare minute to work, and only do a power hour and then another couple hours later in the day. Have my blog numbers dropped, yup. Has my income dropped, thankfully no (or not yet lol). Has my day-to-day life improved? Heck yes! I’m more present with the kids during their waking hours, and present for my husband when he gets in late from work.
Overall I’m trying to just feel less stress. No running out of products we need, no spending all my time doing activities that pull me from the kids. No demands on my time that don’t make me feel good. I encourage you to do the same!
What do you do to avoid the oops in your life? Do you stock up on essentials from Walmart.com too?
Are you taking it easy this summer too?
What do you do to make your life easier?
I proudly partnered with SheSpeaks and Walmart who sponsored this post. It was written during my shorter office hours after not having to clean my house. 🙂

I’ve not started thinking as far ahead as summer but maybe it’s about time I did! First thing on my list would be a cleaning service too to be honest!
