Happy Friday!
I hope you had a good workweek and are ready for the weekend!!! Any big plans?
This week was a low workout week again. I walked and jogged 4 times, and had one really good run.
It was the type of run where everything was against me (my calf siezed up, my music player died mid-run, it started to rain when I was 1/2 way through, I had to poop like…immediately, my gram called saying Roey needed me, and when I sped up toward the end I twisted my ankle – can you believe that mess?!) BUT I powered through!
I’m back home as of yesterday and I feel like since I’ll have to cook for myself again, I’ll be eating better again. Funtime’s over but it was nice while it lasted….I could go for some fried dumplings and cocoa tea for breakfast right now but alas…. no more gramma’s house. John eats low-carb (and low veggie unfortunately) and I think I’ll join him in his low carb lifestyle but with high veggies.
Have any of you guys done Paleo before? (I keep hearing about it and forgetting to read up on it)
I was asked “You’re small why are you trying to lose more weight?” from an e-“friend” who recently had her baby (who was thin before pregnancy, and says she’s going to “embrace her curves” post-pregnancy):
I don’t care about the scale numbers. I weigh 8-12 lbs more than I did pre-pregnancy (depending on the day) and I wouldn’t mind staying this weight forever. It’s not the weight I want (read: NEED) to lose, it’s the fat. The condition of my body is what I’m aiming to change. I think most moms will agree that after baby, the weight is secondary to the gross de-conditioning and mis-shapen-ness that occurs.
I’ve never had and will never have an hourglass body and I’m fine with that. However, pre-pregnancy, my body was built in a way that there was a discernable waist! My fat is now situated in such a way that I look like spongebob a large rectangle and I have dunlap syndrome going on with my stomach. (You do know what dunlaps disease is, right?) 😉 So I want to lose the fat and re shape my body. The weight can stay the same for all I care.
So that’s the physical answer. The vain answer is so I can wear a bikini this summer vacay, and fit back into my favorite jeans and wear fitted tops without feeling like a chocolate muffin!
The mental/emotional answer is so I feel sexy and strong again and feel like my “old” self again.

As for results: NOT SEEING ANY….
BUT
I am feeling some in my runs. I can last a bit longer before I feel like I’m going to die. My legs are definitely taking longer to tire out!
Hooooraaaay Progress!!
How are you girls doing in your fitness pursuits?!

lol @ ‘gross de-conditioning and mis-shapen-ness’
I have never been pregnant, so let me ask. I understand how fat deposits where it likes when you are pregnant so the misshapen thing I can understand. My question is how do you get deconditioned? Did you not continue exercising through your pregnancy or is there a point where you have have to stop? I have seen very heavily pregnant women swimming during the women’s hour at the pool. I thought this type of thing should keep your fitness up.

Oh no you can TOTALLY exercise all the way from conception to birthing! And I would have if I could have. I was using a pregnancy dvd during my first trimester (I canf ind it for you if interested) but after January’s bleeding scare where I found out about my friable cervix they told me no exercise for the duration of my pregnancy. I was so scared seeing blood while pregnant that if she told me I had to hang upside down like a bat and eat kittens for the duration of my pregnancy I would’ve.
Jc says
I see! lol no eating kittens!
Good luck with the post-pregnancy routine, I definitely agree with you that numbers on the scale do not matter, it is how you feel that counts.

I can relate to this so well. It’s been like 3 going in 4 months post birth and I want to get back in shape for sure. Personally, my shape is so hip heavy that I’m looking to reign it all in. Wonder what#3 is going to do to me.

“dunpals” love it! and yes, i’m with you about the vain part. nursing sucked me thinner than i was when i got pregnant and running around the city with nia in tow has kept me slim, but i need to get stronger before baby #2. i miss my defined muscles and abs =(
Quiana says
i meant “dunlaps” 😉

All I have to say to this is “Hell yes!” Its crazy that you lose the weight but not all the fat…..or at least I did. I took for granted my natural skinny nature. Now I’m getting my pre-pregnancy condition back.

Dani, I’m trying my best to stay fit. I’m at the 23 week mark on Sunday and have gained about 14lbs. i’m hoping to gain another 16-21lbs but not more than that. I plan to swim and have been doing prenatal yoga. Of course I can’t lose any weight right now but I’d like to gain between 30-35lbs during my pregnancy. I love your Fit Friday posts! Good luck next week!

All of your fitness goals sound fabulous! I read an article that celeb trainer Kim Lyons wrote after she had her son. She said it took 3 months to lose all the baby weight, and then another 3 months to reshape her body back into how it looked before she got pregnant. So it absolutely makes sense to me that you want to reshape your body back to its previous form. Looking forward to following your progress!

People always ask me the same thing since I am slim. I am working on toning and slimming in certain places but definitely not trying to be smaller than I am now.

Tass for feeling stronger since your run…it does get easier for sure!! I have given myself until 13months…here’s to meeting those goals!
