Today marks Rohan’s first day of second grade and Kaya’s first day of Kindergarten. I’m a little emotional about Kaya’s entree into “big girl” status, but overall I’m ecstatic to have these kids outta my house for 6 hours a day. #judgemeifyawanna!
They had a great drop off. No tears. No fighting. No awkwardness. I have high hopes for this year. Oh, and this happened:
I almost fainted when he reached for her hand!
Dear Rohan,
My sweet boy. My smart, active boy. School has been quite a ride for you. From a homeschooled pre-K, a rough Kindergarten, and a slight upswing for first grade, I’m excited to see what second grade has in store for you.
You are such a great and quick learner and enthusiastic about learning new things. I love that about you. You ask the best questions and I know you’re going to thrive this year. Mommy is excited to ‘afterschool’ you to supplement what you learn. You challenge me as much as I (hope to) challenge you.
My wish for your second grade year is a lot of fun, new and deeper friendships, loads of learning, new/deeper passions and increased confidence. You are a precious boy so full of light and I am grateful to be chosen to help guide you through this lifetime.
Dear Kaya,
My sweet baby girl. You clever little fox. This is the big day! You’ve been so nervous and anxious about starting big girl school and here we are. You went through drop-off like a champ and I’m really proud of you.
I know you’re going to have an excellent year. You are going to learn so much both academically and socially. I’m excited to watch your confidence grow and your esteem rise as you grasp more concepts and experience more. I feel like the staff will be wrapped around your finger by pick-up time today.
My wish for your kindergarten year is breaking through your shyness with new people, an increased appetite for reading and learning, new friends and using your big voice all the time. I’m so very proud of you and I love every minute of being your mom.
Love you both so much.
I can’t wait til you’re older and read this and think about what a sappy mommy you have. You can tease me, it’s ok. Daddy and I tease you guys all the time when you’re sleepin. *wink*
xoxo,
Mama
Do you write letters to your children?
We email our kids letters and photos/videos, and have since my pregnancy. It’ll be a great gift to them when they’re older.

This is too sweet. They look like such big kids! I thought I was ready for my son to be in school but after reading this I don’t think I am=/

Hi, Dani!
Children are one of the most lovely gifts from God!
Your both children are very cute and I hope that they will learn more from you and also from the peoples around them.
Thanks for sharing your feelings.
